Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Do you want to learn ways to find more harmony and balance in your life?
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a class that invites people to look within and tap the inner resources they have often overlooked. The methods you will learn help you uncover ways to affirm life by enhancing awareness. As noted by the Center for Mindfulness and Health, the majority of people who complete the course report:
- Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
- An increased ability to relax
- Enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
- Improved self-esteem
- Better skills for coping with both short and long-term stress
- Greater enthusiasm for life
Mindfulness helps you to relate more directly to your own life experience, and take charge in a way that only you can do, by bringing awareness to your own stress, illness and the challenges of everyday life.
A course in conscious living . . .
The class meets for eight weekly two hour classes and one day-long class on a Saturday or Sunday. You can expect a highly participatory, experiential learning experience which includes:
- Guided instruction in foundational mindfulness practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
- Group dialogue and discussions aimed at building awareness in ordinary life
- Daily homework assignments
- Four home practice CDs
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, an 8 week experiential learning class, teaches foundational mindfulness practices which have benefits for a variety of physical and psychological health concerns, including our responses to the stress of ordinary life. The class will be taught during the fall (09), as well as winter and spring of 2010, co-sponsored by the Montana Spine and Pain Center and Marianne Spitzform, Ph.D.
We welcome patient referrals. An orientation meeting is held before each class cycle to provide information and answer questions. The date for the fall orientation is Weds. Sept. 16 at 5:15 PM at the Grant Creek Family Practice offices, 3075 North Reserve, Suite Q. In addition to learning details about the content and cost of the class, those who attend can complete registration if they wish to enroll.
